Project Arts Centre Associate Artist Fearghus O'Conchuir will be touring Niche this March 2010

WHAT ARE OUR ASSOCIATE ARTISTS UP TO NOW?

In production, in the pipe line, there's loads happening with our Associate Artists.....

It's only January but already our Associate Artists are full steam ahead and racing in to the year with tonnes of exciting projects in the pipe line.

Brokentalkers have recently returned from New York were they were invited to perform Silver Stars, originally comssioned by the Bealtaine festival, at the Under the Radar Festival. 2009 was a successful year for these talented boys, we saw them last January in the Space Upstairs with In Real Time and again in September in the Cube with a sold out revival of Silver Stars as part of the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival. The sky is the limit for these guys and we can't wait to see what they come up with next.

Fearghus O'Conchuir has also been stateside at APAP and is now preparing to bring Open Niche on an Irish Tour. Some of you may have caught Niche in the Space Upstairs at the end of 2008. This time around Fearghus is adapting the piece and will work with local groups of dancers to involve them directly in the performance itself, allowing each performance to become unique to its environment. Open Niche can be seen in the Pavilion Theatre (Dun Laoghaire), Daghda Space (Limerick), Hawk's Well Theatre (Sligo), Siamsa Tire (Tralee) and Firkin Crane (Cork) throughout May 2010.

Rachel West and RAW theatre return to the space upstairs this February. Rachel and the cast are busy in rehearsals with OFF PLAN a new adaptation of the Oresteia written by Simon Doyle. We're looking forward to having them back in the building. OFF PLAN will be running in the Space Upstairs from the 10 to 27 February 2010.

Musician Ian Wilson is working on a new piece Una Sancta Obscura in collaboration with director Tom Creed, violinist Ioana Petchu-Colan designer Ciaran O'Melia. The piece is inspired by the music of 12 Century Century composer and mystic Hildegard of Bingen. The music of Hildegard was said to be inspired by her religious visions, Wilson and Creed will look at this from a contemporary perspective and introduce research which suggests that these ancient apparitions may be nothing more than a migrane. This multidisciplinary piece will incorporate design, theatre and music to present a contemporary Hildegard. Devine inspiration or just a headache - who can know for sure? Catch Una Sancta Obscura in the Space Upstairs from 4 to 6 March 2010.

We are also delighted to be welcoming two new artists to the Project family - Una McKevitt and Jody O'Neil. Both familiar faces in the centre over the past year it's great to have them on board as part of the Associate Artist scheme. Una will revive Victor and Gord which started life here as part of Project Brand New and was performed last year at Queer Notions and Absolut Fringe. This time she returns with Vicky (aka Victor) and Gord (aka Aine) and Vicky's friend Jason. We're all dying to see what the introduction of Jason to the friendship will reveal. Victor and Gord will run in the Cube from 15 - 27 February 2010.

Jody O'Neil is developing Celebrity another seedling of Project Brand New, developed with a New Work Award from the Arts Council. Celebrity exams the construction of identity, the notion of ‘celebrity’, and how online media and live performance can intersect and influence each other, through the relationship of two characters.  Through the piece Jody will look at advertising and media (chiefly women’s magazines), and the view they present of the world.  Celebrity will be presented as a work in progress at Dance House on 26 February 2010.

For those of you who are missing your fix of Project Brand New we are hoping to have a visit from them very soon.

Other Associate Artists hard at work include Annabelle Comyns (HATCH Theatre Company), who is preparing to cast  her next production, THISISPOPBABY - the dynamic duo who brought us Queer Notions in June 2009, Wayne Jordan (Randolf SD), and Junk Ensemble a working on a new piece that will be presented at this year's Dublin Dance Festival (kept you r eye on their website for more full details)
